Glitch temporarily shuts down 30% of McDonald's in Japan

Fast-food giant McDonald's Japan says some of its restaurants have suspended operations after their cash registers developed a glitch.

The chain operator says the trouble occurred on Friday. About 30 percent of its over 2,900 outlets across the country are affected.

A sign at a restaurant in Tokyo's Meguro Ward told customers it was closed.

McDonald's Japan says it is working to identify the cause.

The firm experienced a system failure in March, forcing many of its restaurants to suspend operations. It says that was triggered by a third-party provider during a configuration change.

McDonald's Japan has issued an apology. It says it will continue working to pinpoint the cause and resume operations as soon as possible.
