Historical drama 'Shogun' nominated for 25 Emmys

The historical drama "Shogun" is set to dominate this year's Emmy Awards with nominations in 25 categories.

Nominees for the prestigious television awards were announced in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

"Shogun" depicts a power struggle in feudal Japan. The series was produced by actor Sanada Hiroyuki, who also played the lead role.

It received 25 nominations -- the most of any series this year. They include outstanding drama series, outstanding lead actor, outstanding lead actress and outstanding writing.

US media reports say "Shogun" is the second non-English language production to be nominated for outstanding drama series, after South Korea's "Squid Game" in 2022.

"Shogun" was created by the US pay television channel FX, and became a worldwide hit through streaming services.

The Emmy winners are scheduled to be announced on September 15.
