Biden disputes criticism that his comments incited Trump's assassination attempt

US President Joe Biden has disputed criticism from some Republicans that his comments incited the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

Biden was interviewed by NBC News anchor Lester Holt on Monday.

In response to the criticism about his comments, Biden argued about the difficulty of discussing the threat to democracy. He said: "Do you just not say anything because it may incite somebody? Look, I have not engaged in that rhetoric."

Holt noted that Biden had said a week ago that "it's time to put Trump in the bullseye." When asked about the term "bullseye," Biden said, "It was a mistake to use the word."
Biden explained that he meant to say that they should focus on Trump's policies and the number of lies the former president told in the debate.

Biden criticized Trump's language as "inflammatory" and said he will "continue to talk about the things that matter to the American public."
