Over 50 missing after Nepal landslide sweeps buses into river

Police in Nepal say more than 50 people are missing after a landslide swept two buses into a river in a mountainous area.

The buses were traveling alongside the river about 100 kilometers from the capital, Kathmandu, early Friday. Rescue efforts by the police and military are underway. Three people reportedly survived after jumping out of the buses and swimming to the riverbank.

Currently in the middle of rainy season, Nepal's mountain regions have been hit by landslides and flooding. Across the country, at least fifteen people have been confirmed dead on Thursday and Friday alone.

Authorities are calling on the public to remain on the alert.
