Palestinian media: Israeli airstrike on school killed 29

Palestinian media say Israeli forces conducted an airstrike on a school being used as a shelter in Khan Younis, killing at least 29 displaced people. The Islamic group Hamas denounced the attack.

Footage taken at a hospital on Tuesday shows vehicles carrying injured people arriving there one after another. Children were among those receiving treatment.

Hamas released a statement saying that the massacre represents a continuation of the genocidal war and horrific massacres against defenseless people.

The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement on Wednesday that the air force used a "precise munition" to strike a Hamas fighter who took part in the October 7 attacks on Israelis. The IDF said it is investigating reports that civilians were harmed.

Israeli media reported that the head of Israel's Mossad intelligence service will attend summit talks with the director of the US Central Intelligence Agency and others in Qatar on Wednesday to try to make progress in negotiations on a ceasefire and the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.

Concerns are rising that the latest attack may impact the planned talks.
