Nikkei 225 hits all-time high

The benchmark index for the Tokyo Stock Exchange has hit a new record. Investors poured into semiconductor-related issues after a rally in New York led by high-tech shares.

The Nikkei 225 closed on Tuesday at 41,580, up 799 points or 1.96 percent, topping the previous record set last Thursday.

The jump came after a marginal two-day losing streak through Monday. The index still set intraday highs in both sessions.
