Hamas shows readiness for concessions in ceasefire talks

The Islamic group Hamas is reportedly showing willingness toward concessions in mediated negotiations over a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages.

Israeli forces have continued to stage airstrikes and ground attacks in Gaza.

The southern Gaza cities of Rafah and Khan Younis, where many displaced people are taking shelter, were struck on Friday.

Qatar-based satellite TV network Al Jazeera says at least 10 people were killed in the air raids.

Video footage taken on Friday by an NHK camera crew in Gaza shows wounded people being brought to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. The injured included children who looked lifeless.

Meanwhile, negotiations between Israel and Hamas continue through Qatar and other mediators.

Reuters news agency has reported that Hamas is showing concessionary gestures over a three-phase proposal that is currently being discussed.

Hamas is reportedly no longer demanding as a pre-condition an Israeli commitment to a permanent ceasefire before signing an agreement, and would allow negotiations to achieve that throughout a first six-week phase.

Israel's Prime Minister's Office announced on Friday that there are still gaps between the two sides. The office also said that a team will be dispatched next week to continue the negotiations.
