Palestinian authorities: 7 killed in Israeli attack in northern Gaza

Israeli forces have reportedly been pounding Gaza City, in the northern Gaza Strip, which they claim to have put under control.

Local Palestinian media reported on Thursday that Israeli forces launched a ground operation in Gaza City using shelling and airstrikes. First responders say seven people were killed and dozens were wounded.

Israeli forces say they had ordered local residents to evacuate. But footage of Gaza City released by Reuters shows a wounded child bleeding from the head, rising white smoke and residents scrambling to flee.

Health authorities in Gaza reported on Thursday that 47 people had been killed during the previous 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths since October 7 to 37,765.

Israeli forces and Hezbollah, the Shia militant group in Lebanon, are still exchanging fire across the border.

On Thursday, Israeli forces released footage of a ground offensive drill based on the scenario of fighting Hezbollah in mountainous terrain and other conditions.

Israeli media outlets report that Israel is preparing for the possibility of a military incursion into Lebanon.
