Toyota chairman reappointed at lowest approval rate among directors

Toyota Motor Chairman Toyoda Akio received the lowest ratio of votes among directors reappointed to the board this week, according to a report from the company.

Shareholders of Japan's biggest automaker reappointed 10 directors in a vote on Tuesday.

Toyoda got about 72 percent affirmative votes to serve another term as a member of the board. That's down more than 12 points from last year.

The approval ratio for President Sato Koji was slightly more than 95 percent.

Two US proxy advisory firms recommended voting against Toyoda's reappointment, citing the firm's failure to follow government road and safety test procedures for vehicles.

Toyota says it understands the frank opinions of some institutional investors, which reflected various factors, including the testing irregularities.
