US Vice President Harris will attend Swiss peace summit, White House says

The White House says Vice President Kamala Harris will attend a summit on peace in Ukraine to be held in Switzerland later this month.

The White House made the announcement on Monday, adding that National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will join the vice president in representing the United States at the meeting.

The peace summit is scheduled to be held on June 15 and 16 in Switzerland, with the aim of realizing a peace plan advocated by Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been asking US President Joe Biden to take part in the talks.

US media reports say that Biden is scheduled to be at an event in Los Angeles on June 15 to raise funds for his presidential election campaign.

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby responded to a question from reporters asking if the president is forgoing the peace summit in favor of a fundraiser.

Kirby said, "There hasn't been any single leader around the world who has supported Ukraine more and more stridently than Joe Biden."
