China calls for dialogue with North Korea rather than pressure

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson has stressed that the response to North Korea's attempt to launch a satellite on Monday should involve dialogue with Pyongyang rather than pressure.

Mao Ning made the remarks at a news conference in Beijing on Tuesday.

She said China is closely watching the situation of the satellite launch. Pyongyang announced that the launch of its reconnaissance satellite had failed.

The spokesperson also said China believes that maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, and promoting the process of political resolution, would be a shared benefit to all parties.
