US Indo-Pacific Command condemns N.Korea's launch

The US Indo-Pacific Command has released a statement condemning what North Korea calls the launch of its military reconnaissance satellite.

The command said the launch on Monday "is a brazen violation of multiple unanimous UN Security Council resolutions, raises tensions, and risks destabilizing the security situation in the region and beyond."

It added that the launch "involved technologies that are directly related to" North Korea's intercontinental ballistic missile program, and that "we are assessing the situation in close coordination with our allies and partners."

The command stressed that the US commitment to homeland defense and the defense of South Korea and Japan remains ironclad.
