Media: More than 100 feared dead in landslide in Papua New Guinea

A massive landslide has occurred in a mountainous area in northern Papua New Guinea. Australia's public broadcaster ABC and other media outlets say more than 100 people may have been killed.

The disaster took place about 600 kilometers northwest of the South Pacific island nation's capital, Port Moresby, in the early hours of Friday.

A local provincial official told NHK that the extent of damage is unknown as road access is blocked.

The AFP news agency quoted local authorities as saying the landslide affected six villages.
