14 killed in Mumbai as huge billboard collapses

At least 14 people have been killed after a huge billboard collapsed in strong winds on Monday evening in the city of Mumbai in western India.

The structure crashed down onto a gas station, houses and other facilities, trapping people and cars underneath. Local authorities say 75 people have been injured. Rescue workers are still searching for survivors.

Multiple media outlets say that local officials had not permitted the massive billboard, which was over 1,200 square meters big.

There had reportedly been complaints about its safety. Authorities have directed that any such unpermitted billboards be removed.
