Floods kill at least 50 people in Afghanistan

Floods from heavy rains that hit Afghanistan's northern Baghlan province on Thursday and Friday have killed at least 50 people.

Local authorities under The Taliban interim government said hundreds of buildings were destroyed or washed away.

The government and local officials dispatched rescue teams to search for missing people.

Video taken on Friday shows muddy water rushing into residential areas and violently engulfing buildings, and a man who appears to be a local resident saying many houses were washed away.

Heavy rains that hit the country last month killed at least 70 people and damaged more than 2,000 buildings in the country.
