DisneySea unveils new park expansion

Tokyo DisneySea is opening a new area in June that celebrates popular films like "Frozen." The section is called "Fantasy Springs" and was unveiled to the media on Tuesday.

Theme park operator Oriental Land says the area spans 140,000 square meters. It is the largest expansion of DisneySea since the park opened in 2001 and cost some 320 billion yen, or about 2 billion dollars.

The area includes attractions also based on the Disney films "Tangled" and "Peter Pan." It features a castle, an ice palace, and a pirate ship.

Oriental Land says its total sales for fiscal 2023 were a record 618 billion yen, or about 4 billion dollars. This was largely driven by a price hike and an increase in foreign visitors.

The company says it expects the new Fantasy Springs section to help boost sales this business year by an additional 10 percent.
