Ohtani breaks Dodgers' record for most homers by a Japan-born player

Baseball superstar Ohtani Shohei of the Los Angeles Dodgers has hit his eighth home run of the season, setting a new team record for the most homers by a Japanese-born player.

The record was previously held by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who was born in Okinawa.

Roberts suddenly appeared while Ohtani was speaking to reporters after the game against the Atlanta Braves. He said, "I wanted to interrupt this session and show everybody the present I received from Shohei yesterday. So tonight he passed me for the Japanese-born Dodgers home-run record, so Shohei, I just want to say congratulations."

Roberts showed the reporters a toy car and said, "Thank you very much. This is my car."

He had joked that Ohtani should give him a new car if he broke the record.

Ohtani says he will think about buying Roberts a real car if the Dodgers win the World Series.
