Zelenskyy thanks US Senate for long-awaited military aid

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed gratitude to the United States Senate for approving an aid package to Ukraine.

The Senators approved on Tuesday the aid of more than 60 billion dollars, which President Joe Biden has already promised to sign into law.

Zelenskyy said in a statement posted on X that the approval "reinforces America's role as a beacon of democracy and the leader of the free world."

He also said that "long-range capabilities, artillery, and air defense are critical tools" for restoring peace sooner.

Also on Tuesday, Zelenskyy thanked British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the phone for the announcement of what the UK says is its largest-ever military support package to Ukraine.
