New V point reward system suffers another glitch

Users of the newly-launched Japanese V Point customer loyalty program are experiencing more problems on Tuesday.

Some people are receiving messages on their smartphones saying the application is not working and that they should try again later.

"V Point" was launched on Monday after the operator of the Tsutaya chain of video rental shops and bookstores, Culture Convenience Club, and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group combined their point-based reward systems.

Users need to open the app to display the barcode at stores when they want to collect or use points.

But the operator says too many people have been trying to access the system at the same time on Tuesday which caused the glitch.

On Monday, the first day of the launch, a separate problem left many users unable to check their balances or make payments.

The operator says, "We deeply apologize for the inconvenience and the trouble this has caused."
