Ohtani sets record for most home runs by Japanese player in MLB

In Major League Baseball, Ohtani Shohei of the Los Angeles Dodgers has surpassed the record held by Matsui Hideki for the most home runs by a Japanese player.

Ohtani started as the designated hitter, batting second in Sunday's game against the New York Mets.

During his second at-bat in the third inning, Ohtani belted his fifth home run of the season and his 176th in the Major League. The ball traveled128.9 meters at a speed of 177 kilometers per hour.

Ohtani had not hit a home run in seven games since his last one on April 12.

After the game, he said that he had wanted to hit a homer as soon as possible, so he was both relieved and delighted when he succeeded.

The Dodgers secured a dominant victory over the Mets, with a score of 10 to 0. Ohtani expressed his belief that his team's offense will continue to improve. He praised starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow for an excellent performance.

Matsui, who played with the New York Yankees and other MLB teams, achieved his record 175th homer in his 1,205th game. Ohtani set the new record in his 725th game.
