Explosion reported at Shia militia group base in Iraq

A Shia Muslim militia group in Iraq says an explosion has occurred at a base south of the capital Baghdad.

Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces announced on its social media account on Saturday that multiple people were wounded. The group is part of an "Axis of Resistance" backed by Iran.

The cause of the explosion is not known.

Amid the ongoing tension between Israel and Iran, there is a concern that the incident could further destabilize the situation in the Middle East.

The United States Central Command says it is aware of reports that the US has conducted an airstrike in Iraq but denied any involvement.
