WSJ: Israel preparing for attack from Iran

The Wall Street Journal has reported that Israel is preparing for a direct attack from Iran after an air strike on Tehran's embassy in Syria April 1.

The US newspaper on Thursday quoted a person familiar with the matter as saying that the attack could come in the next 24 to 48 hours.

The paper also referred to an Iranian source as saying that while plans to attack are being discussed, no final decision has been made. Iran accuses Israel of carrying out the attack.

Reuters news agency reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian had told the United States that Tehran will respond to the purported Israeli attack in a way that avoids major escalation.

Iran's message was reportedly conveyed through Oman, a Gulf nation that has served as an intermediary between Iran and the US.

Media outlets in Israel are reporting that Lebanon-based Shia militant group Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran, and Yemen's Houthi rebels could also launch attacks against the country.
