Daihatsu to restart all domestic plants after safety test scandal

Japan's Daihatsu Motor says it will restart production at its head plant next month, which will bring all its domestic factories back online.

The plants had suspended output following discovery of fraudulent safety tests on vehicles.

The company will resume production of its mini-vehicle Copen at its head plant in Osaka Prefecture on May 7.

It plans to restart output of its mini-vehicle Taft in the same month at a subsidiary in Oita Prefecture, western Japan.

The automaker shut down all four of its domestic plants in December last year following reports it had faked tests to obtain government safety certificates.

It has since restarted production in phases as regulators confirmed specific vehicles met government standards.
