Two more deaths linked to 'beni-koji' supplements reported

Japanese drugmaker Kobayashi Pharmaceutical announced on Thursday that two more people have died after taking its "beni-koji" or red yeast-fermented rice health supplements.

Families of the two reported to the company that they had shown symptoms possibly linked to kidney disease.

The company has launched a detailed investigation into whether its supplements caused the deaths.

A total of four people have now been reported to have died after taking the supplements.
