Russia's central election commission decided on Thursday that former lower house member Boris Nadezhdin will not be allowed to run in the presidential election. Nadezhdin is a critic of President Vladimir Putin.
Nadezhdin submitted more than 100,000 signatures of endorsement on January 31. But the central election commission said some of them were invalid. Nadezhdin said he is dissatisfied with the decision and will appeal to the Supreme Court.
Attention had been focused on whether the critic of Russia's offensive in Ukraine would be allowed to run for election. The Putin administration was believed to be on high alert for Nadezhdin's moves.
