Smoke reported at Tsuruga nuclear power plant in central Japan

Firefighting authorities in Fukui Prefecture, central Japan, say they have been notified of smoke at the Tsuruga nuclear power plant's No.1 reactor.

The report came in at around 6:30 a.m. Thursday and said that smoke was coming out of the reactor's turbine building.

Police and the plant's operator, the Japan Atomic Power Company, say there have been no reports of injury so far.

The reactor has been undergoing decommissioning work since 2017.
