Toyota chairman apologizes for scandals

Toyota Motor Chairman Toyoda Akio apologized on Tuesday for the certification scandals at its group companies, including the latest case at Toyota Industries involving irregularities in certification tests on diesel engines.

Toyoda said he wanted to express his "deepest apologies" for the succession of wrongdoings at Hino Motors, Daihatsu Motor and Toyota Industries, and for causing "troubles and concerns" for customers and other stakeholders.
