Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is making arrangements to meet with Prime Minister Kishida Fumio in Japan early next month. Italy will host this year's Group of Seven summit.
Italian government sources told NHK on Sunday that Meloni is planning to visit Japan from February 4 to 5.
Meloni's last trip to Japan was in May 2023 for the G7 summit in Hiroshima. The two leaders are expected to confirm that the G7 members will continue to work together to provide support for Ukraine.
Italy will host the G7 summit in the southern region of Puglia from June 13 through 15.
A key focus is how Italy will lead the talks as some analysts are pointing to donor fatigue among Western countries in their support for Ukraine.
