Disaster-hit Ishikawa Prefecture offers multilingual information on shelters

Ishikawa Prefecture is posting on its website multilingual information on shelters that were opened for evacuees in the wake of the devastating earthquake that hit central Japan on New Year's Day. Officials are calling on foreign residents and tourists to make use of the website.

The prefecture's disaster management portal uses machine translation to offer information in over 100 different languages. The prefecture is updating the original Japanese-language content as needed.

Those who wish to access the information in their own language can use the "language" pull-down menu on the upper-right side of the website's home page.

For detailed information, users need to click municipalities shown in a map of the prefecture to find where shelters are located and how many more people can be accommodated.
