Kremlin: Putin to attend virtual G20 summit on Wednesday

Russia's presidential spokesperson has announced that President Vladimir Putin plans to attend an upcoming virtual Group of 20 summit and deliver a speech.

Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that Putin will take part in the summit on Wednesday. India, which is chairing G20 meetings this year, has sent out invitations to the event.

Putin skipped the G20 summit in September this year -- his second absence in two consecutive years. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov took part instead.

Putin has been absent from major international forums attended by Western leaders since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February last year.
