Weather officials in Japan say a massive volcanic eruption in Papua New Guinea has the potential to send tsunami to the Izu and Ogasawara islands in the Pacific at around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Japan Time, at the earliest.
But so far there is no confirmation that tsunami have been generated.
The Meteorological Agency says Ulawun volcano had an explosive eruption on Monday.
A large eruption sometimes generates pressure waves that cause tsunami.
