Tokyo's Yamanote loop line partly shut down on Sunday

The Yamanote line that circles central Tokyo is shut down in a counterclockwise direction between Ikebukuro and Osaki stations throughout Sunday.

The operator, East Japan Railway is also reducing services on the rest of the loop.

The stoppage is being caused by construction work at JR Shibuya Station as part of a redevelopment project in the area.

The Shibuya Station neighborhood redevelopment program is being called a "once in a century" project.

The work at the station is being done to improve the pedestrian passages that run between the east and west sides of the station.
