Shooting at Israeli West Bank checkpoint injures 6, fightback kills 3 suspects

Israeli authorities say a shooting incident at the Israeli checkpoint near Bethlehem in the Palestinian territory of the West Bank has left six people injured.

The authorities say the attackers who are thought to be Palestinians opened fire on Thursday morning.

They say Israeli security forces fought back and fatally shot three suspects.

Footage from the scene shows a number of police vehicles and ambulances in the area, which was cordoned off.

Israeli troops and Jewish settlers have repeatedly clashed with Palestinian residents in the West Bank since the beginning of this year.

Israel has tightened control on the territory further since fighting between the Israeli military and the Palestinian Islamic group Hamas began in the Gaza Strip on October 7.
