Evacuees killed by shelling of United Nations compound in Gaza, UNDP says

The United Nations Development Programme says it is "deeply distressed by preliminary reports of the shelling of the United Nations compound in Gaza City."

The UNDP said in a statement on Saturday that "the shelling has reportedly resulted in a significant number of deaths and injuries."

It cited its November 6 report that several hundred people seeking refuge had entered the compound, which UN staff had vacated.

It said, "The ongoing tragedy of death and injury to civilians ensnared in this conflict is unacceptable and must stop."
