In Major League Baseball, Japanese two-way star Ohtani Shohei has won the Silver Slugger Award in the designated hitter category. He received the award in the American League for the second time since 2021.
The MLB announced the recipients of the 2023 award on Thursday. It is given to the best hitter at each position in American and National leagues. Team managers and coaches voted for players not on their teams.
Ohtani had a batting average of .304, hit 44 homeruns, and batted in 95 runs in his sixth MLB season. He was the first Asian player to win the American League's homerun title.
Ohtani is seen as a favorite to win the American League's Most Valuable Player Award, to be announced on November 16. Attention is on whether he becomes the first player in MLB history to win a second MVP award by unanimous vote.
