Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has visited a hospital in the US city of New York to meet Ukrainian soldiers being treated there for injuries sustained in the fight against Russia.
Zelenskyy arrived in New York on Monday. He is scheduled to attend the UN General Assembly and a UN Security Council meeting in person for the first time since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
He announced his arrival on social media.
Later on Monday, he visited the wounded soldiers, shook hands with them and chatted in front of the cameras.
At the upcoming UN meetings, the Ukrainian president is expected to reiterate his appeal for support from the international community, as the country fights back against Russia.
A reporter asked Zelenskyy if he will remain at the table when the Russian envoy speaks at the Security Council meeting. Zelenskyy replied that he does not know. He said what is important is that all messages from Ukraine are heard by its partners.
He also said, "if in the United Nations there is a place for Russian terrorists, the question is not to me, I think it's a question to all the members of the United Nations."
