Biden's son Hunter indicted on gun charges

US President Joe Biden has seen his son come under increasing legal scrutiny. On Thursday, federal prosecutors indicted Hunter Biden on gun charges.

Prosecutors say Hunter deceived a gun dealer into selling him a firearm in 2018 by lying about the fact that he was using illegal drugs. The indictment is believed to be the first-ever for the child of a sitting president.

The charges come weeks after the collapse of a plea deal that would have averted a criminal trial. However, Biden's lawyer said he is still protected by part of that deal and that the indictment should be thrown out.

Former President Donald Trump and his Republican allies have been pushing for an investigation into the Bidens' business dealings. Earlier this week, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy opened an impeachment inquiry into the president.

Investigators have signaled that Hunter Biden could face further charges for failing to pay his taxes.
