Leaders of Cambodia, China meet in Beijing

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. This is Hun Manet's first trip to China, since he took office in August. He apparently wants to strengthen ties between the two countries. China is Cambodia's largest investor.

Hun Manet arrived in the capital on Thursday for an official visit. He is scheduled to attend the China-ASEAN Expo.

Cambodian authorities and China's foreign ministry say Hun Manet and Xi Jinping met on Friday morning. They report that the leaders confirmed the two nations will continue to strengthen bilateral ties. This is Hun Manet's second overseas trip. It follows his visit to Indonesia.
He participated in the ASEAN summit there earlier this month.
Cambodia has been enjoying economic growth. Beijing has been investing heavily in the country. Former leader Hun Sen's administration drew the nation closer to the economic superpower. Hun Manet is Hun Sen's eldest son and successor. Hun Manet also appears to be placing a lot of importance on relations with Beijing.
