Heavy rains, flooding kill at least 150 in Libya

Heavy rains and flooding in Libya have killed at least 150 people.

The Reuters news agency said the death toll in the eastern city of Derna was at least 150 as a result of rain-triggered floods on Monday.

Officials said many others are still unaccounted for, and they fear the number of casualties will rise.

Footage shows a large section of the road covered with water, with vehicles half-submerged.

Days of rain across large parts of eastern Libya prompted authorities to take precautionary measures, including the closure of schools.

Officials said the heavy rains resulted in some highways being closed and communications disrupted. Local authorities are trying to find out the full extent of damage.
