US tech giant Microsoft suspects China is using generative artificial intelligence to spread information on fake social media accounts in an attempt to influence US voters.
The company released a report of their findings on Thursday.
The report said Chinese authorities are operating fake social media accounts that mimic US voters to post politically charged contents in English, as well as respond to posts from other users.
It believes China began using generative artificial intelligence technology to make postings around March this year. According to the report, since then AI-generated images have become more elaborate so information can spread more easily.
Google announced this month that, ahead of the November 2024 US presidential election, it will require election-related advertisements to disclose the use of generative artificial intelligence.
