US expresses support for Japan over treated water release

The United States has shown support for Japan over its release of treated and diluted water from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said on Wednesday that Japan has taken all the necessary steps to apply international standards for the release of the treated water.

On China's suspension of all seafood imports from Japan, he said there should be no reason for any country to try to exert a punitive economic measure.
