China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning has given no explanation as to why President Xi Jinping will skip the Group of 20 summit in New Delhi, India, on Saturday and Sunday.
It will be the first time for Xi to miss the event. Premier Li Qiang will attend instead.
Mao told reporters on Monday that China has always placed high importance on the G20 and has actively participated in relevant events.
On Tuesday, when asked the reason for Xi's absence, Mao said she had given a response the previous day and that the ministry had issued the relevant information.
Reporters also asked whether Xi will attend the Eastern Economic Forum, which will be held in Vladivostok in the Russian Far East from September 10 through 13.
Mao said she had no information to offer at present.
