People in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv have welcomed President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's in-person participation in the recent Group of Seven summit in Hiroshima and an offer of additional military support from Washington.
A man in his 30s said he is glad Zelenskyy is travelling around the world to tell other countries that Ukraine needs support.
Asked about a US announcement of a new military aid package, including the training of Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16 fighters in a joint effort with its allies and partners, he said he had long waited for it. He said the fighters will boost Ukraine's air defense capabilities.
A woman in her 20s said the summit was a great opportunity to show what is happening in Ukraine.
Another woman in her 30s welcomed Washington's decision. She said Ukraine needs protection and has to get its territory back.
She also expressed hope that the F-16s will be supplied to Ukraine soon, as Russia's military has been carrying out attacks more often since the start of this month.
