Yellow sand likely to reach wide regions from northern to western Japan

Japanese weather officials say yellow sand from China's deserts is likely to reach wide regions from northern to western Japan on Monday.

The Meteorological Agency says visibility is expected to be less than 10 kilometers, and below 5 kilometers in some regions.

As of 6 a.m. on Monday, yellow sand is believed to have reached the Sea of Japan coast of those regions. The yellow sand will likely spread to the Pacific coast through Monday evening.

Weather officials say people should avoid hanging laundry out to dry. They are also urging drivers to take caution.
