US major media outlets say Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican, will officially launch his campaign for next year's presidential election.
The Wall Street Journal and others reported on Thursday that people familiar with the matter said DeSantis will file necessary documents with the Federal Election Commission next week.
DeSantis has garnered popularity among Republicans with his hardline conservative policies. He is running second in several polls, behind former President Donald Trump, as the possible Republican nominee.
Trump, former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and others have already announced their candidacy for the Republican nomination race. Former Vice President Mike Pence may also enter.
In the Democratic camp, President Joe Biden declared last month that he will seek reelection.
