China has criticized the visit to Taiwan by former British prime minister Liz Truss.
China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin told reporters on Wednesday that a British politician from the past is using the Taiwan issue to flaunt her presence, but she is only trying to fulfill her political self-interest.
Wang described the actions taken by Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party to use taxpayer money to entertain an ex-prime minister, who had the shortest tenure in Britain's history, as unpatriotic.
He warned that such schemes to provoke and aim for independence by colluding with outside forces are doomed to fail.
