Draft G7 statement calls for talks on AI

Group of Seven leaders plan to comment on artificial intelligence at the Hiroshima summit starting Friday. NHK has learned that the topic is included in a preliminary joint statement.

The draft says technologies like AI and the metaverse must be developed in a way that respects democratic values, privacy and human rights.

The document also calls on governments to ensure transparency and fairness in promoting trustworthy AI.

The statement also points out that data free-flow with trust is necessary for reliable cross-border data sharing to improve the accuracy of AI.

The document says G7 and other countries plan to work together to establish rules for exchanging reliable data. Attention is on what messages G7 leaders at the summit will agree on for AI and other technologies.
