Japan mulls sending foreign minister to Ukraine conference in UK

The Japanese government is considering sending Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa to attend an international conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine to be held next month in the United Kingdom.

A draft statement being negotiated among the G7 nations says the conference will be held in London on June 21 and 22 as an important turning point for the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine.

Japan, as the chair of the G7 summit, plans to send Hayashi to the conference to stress the country's commitment to the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Ahead of the conference, the Japanese government plans to hold a session on Ukrainian issues at the summit of the Group of Seven nations in Hiroshima on the opening day, Friday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy plans to attend online.
