Fiery crash of tractor trailer and van in Mexico kills at least 27

A tractor trailer and a van crashed in northeastern Mexico on Sunday morning, killing at least 27 people.

The accident took place on a highway in the state of Tamaulipas. The two vehicles caught fire.

Officials arriving at the site of the crash reportedly say the truck that had been pulling the trailer was not found.

In Mexico, there has been a succession of accidents involving vehicles carrying migrants heading for the United States via the country.

A tractor trailer accident in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas in 2021 killed over 50 people, many of whom were believed to be migrants.

Investigators are closely looking into the latest accident, including whether it also involves migrants.
