NHK's latest opinion poll shows most people want the central and local governments to exercise caution when using generative artificial intelligence.
The random phone survey was carried out over the weekend and targeted 2,539 people aged 18 or older. Of those called, 48 percent, or 1,225 people, responded.
They were asked what they thought of the central and local governments using AI programs that generate text and images.
Among those polled, 67 percent said it should be used with caution while 9 percent said it should be actively used. Fourteen percent said such software should not be used at all.
